Sunday School Offerings

Ben Shaw   -

Happy New Year!

Sunday School will begin again on January 11.

We are excited to again offer two options for our adults for the Sunday School hour between worship services. As usual, one will be centered on a book of the Bible, and the other will be more focused on a biblical understanding of a theme or topic.

HEBREWS – Palmer Robertson
Dr. Robertson will continue The Testimony of Hebrews for any of you who have been on that journey thus far or for those of you who would like to jump in. He will continue to cover the New Testament book of Hebrews each week until Palm Sunday (March 22)

FAITH & CREATIVITY – various discussion leaders
Our other adult Sunday School offering will explore the relationship between Faith and Creativity. This class will be a bit different from what we’ve done recently, and we hope many of you will join us as you’re able. Below is a bit of an introduction.

Among the Bible’s earliest and most foundational claims are these two,

  • God created everything, bringing order out of chaos.

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep…” (Genesis 1:1–2)

  • God created people in His image—reflecting who He is and what He does.

“So God created man in his own image… male and female he created them. And God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it…’” (Genesis 1:27–28)

Over the next few months, we want to consider what it means that we are created to be creators. Whatever we think about ourselves—or about what it means to “be creative”—Scripture tells us that God invites us to participate in His work: bringing order from chaos, filling the earth, and making things.

Understanding creativity is part of understanding God Himself. Every person is creative, whether that creativity shows up in abstract paintings, songs you compose to help your children learn the periodic table, systems you build for organizing a work budget, or even the particular process that you have for making the perfect peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Each of these reflects, in its own way, the image of our Creator God.

So whether you’ve always known you were made to make—art, music, food, structures—or you don’t consider yourself creative at all, this class extends a simple invitation:

Would you consider how thinking about creation and creativity might help you better understand who God is—and who He designed us to be?

So, if you do not have commitments during the Sunday School hour, come join us.
And, if you think this is something that particularly stirs your interest and imagination and would like to be a part of leading a discussion for a Sunday, please reach out to me.

Looking forward to an exciting 2026.

Cheers,

Ben Shaw
