Generosity in Action at Sunnyside

  -

Dear Hope Church Family,

In July we asked you all to go through your things and donate men’s clothing and shoes to Sunnyside Ministries. You blew us away with your generosity, and I had the joy of placing your shoes and your suits and your slacks into the hands of men and teenage boys who will continue to get mileage out of them. Multiple people who work or volunteer at Sunnyside mentioned to me specifically how overwhelmed they were by our donations—plenty, clean, ready to pass along. Thank you, thank you.

During the month of September we are collecting bath towels, hand towels, wash cloths and bedsheet sets. These things can be used or new, and it’s best to go by the rule-of-thumb if you would use it, it’s good to donate, but if it’s too worn out, dirty, old or smelly for you, it’s not something we want to be passing along to neighbors in Sunnyside.

When donating, please make sure your items are clean and folded. Towels can be placed in the collection bins outside the office as-is, but if you’re donating bedsheets, please fold them up, bind them with masking tape, and write the size with permanent marker on the tape. Please do not donate single sheets, only sets. The greatest need is typically for King and Queen sizes, but all sizes are needed. Sheets are a big, ‘always’ need. Thank you for giving, even sheets you may not have thought you were quite ready to part with!

Lastly, if are interested in knowing more about Sunnyside Ministries, you can follow this link to their website, or better yet, chat with me, Cyndy Barnes, Kelly Heaton, Margaret Ann Speakman, David Speakman or Ethan Smith to get a better understanding of what happens there every day and how you can become more involved! There is a real divine joy that comes when we are side by side with brothers and sisters from different walks of life, and volunteering at Sunnyside is just one way you might consider.

Thank you,
Ginny Evans
