Summer Worship

David Speakman   -

Dear Hope Church Family,

As often as I am able, I try to remind myself and our congregation that worship is the most fundamental, most formative thing we do as humans and as members of God’s family. It is never optional – one sidebar choice among an array of other choices. Everyone worships. The only choice is what or whom we worship.

I’m excited for our summer season of worshiping the Lord Jesus Christ together as the Hope Church family.

In the midst of our full, busy, and often scattered lives, worship provides an anchor point for remembering who we are and to whom we ultimately belong. A respite from the ordinary workaday world with its endless litany of demands and tasks. An opportunity to be in God’s presence as his beloved, delighted in children and enjoy the intimacy of that relationship. Formation to become more like the God we worship – see what thrills his heart, breaks his heart, moves his ways in the world and then take on that family resemblance.

Very practically, I alert you that for our worship services between June 1st and August 10th, the timing and circumstances are going to change a bit.

Timing:
10-11:15am – Corporate Worship
11:15 – Hope Cafe

Circumstances:
A single worship with childcare and Children’s Worship classes provided

Also, very, very practically, we anticipate having a full worship hall for our services. To ensure that we can make room for congregants and guests alike, please squeeze in towards the middle so that folks can enter rows from the side, and please move forward (gasp!) in the worship hall so that later arrivals can access the back rows.

I do realize that these changes are disruptive. Change always is! But we are asking something of everyone with good reason. We earnestly hope that a simpler summer schedule will allow some of our volunteers and staff a chance to catch their breath after a long season of heavy-lifting, will allow us a chance to worship together in one service for a season, and will allow us a chance to capitalize upon a sense of momentum and joy from full, vibrant services.

Join me in praying Psalm 122: 1, “I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go unto the house of the Lord!”

Grace and peace,

David
